The stories we tell ourselves
Often we ascribe meaning to events and actions retrospectively. We tell a story about what happened to give it purpose. This makes us feel like things don’t just happen randomly and have no consequence.
The fun thing about that is: Once you’re aware of it, you can change the story. The things you’ve experienced in the past made you who you are today. Even the bad things.
It’s difficult to understand the story we’re telling about the current pandemic because we’re still in the thick of it. The wave is still crashing in slow motion and we’re not aware of its shape or magnitude. What can help, is to remember the story is a choice. You don’t get to control the wave, but you do get to choose how you react.
