Isn’t showering just amazing? Feeling the water on your skin, getting all soapy and clean? Sometimes having epiphanies and life-changing ideas you’ll most likely instantly forget?
For a few months, I’ve been taking cold showers after my normal steaming hot shower. It’s a way to cut my showers short and save water because as soon as the icy water strikes I want out.
The thing is, cold showers never get easier. Or let me rephrase: You get used to the idea and to the discomfort, but you don’t experience the water not being cold.
What I like about it is how it snaps me right into the present moment. My mind can’t drift anywhere because I’m so super aware of my body. It’s kind of nice. To be present. Right in the moment.
I once heard someone say that anxiety was caused by living in the future and depression was caused by living in the past. I don’ know how accurate that is, but I do know that this very present moment is not always so terribly bad.
