Being bad is part of the process
Being terrible at the thing you want to get better at is part of the process. It’s unavoidable and honestly, it’s essential.
No master of their craft has ever created their masterpiece on day one. Where would the fun be in that?
Nobody likes to suck at something, and if takes 10 000 hours to become an expert (like Malcolm Gladwell suggests), you’re probably going to suck for a while before you get any good.
The best way to tackle this is:
- Make peace with the fact that you’re going to suck at the start
- Celebrate your small victories and progress
- Stay committed
- Be consistent and practice regularly
- Think of the long run
Make practising a part of your daily or weekly routine. Put yourself on the hook and you will be grateful for it in 2028.
