Old town and the shore in Dubrovnik
Even the most cynical of visitors is bound to fall under this Croatian city’s spell, with its twinkling clear Adriatic sea and remarkable Old Town.
The first thing that caught my eye once we disembarked our taxi at the entrance to the Old Town, was a big ancient-looking water fountain. The sun was hot and too high for so early in the day, but here people were huddling in the shade to take turns drinking from the fountain. All the while pigeons walk about minding everyone’s business and statues look on frozen in motion.
We decided not to walk the ancient wall as it was a bit pricey, settling instead for the first gelato shop we could find. We were not disappointed. Right outside the wall you can swim in the refreshing water. Our taxi driver assured us their seas are the second cleanest in the world.
Game of Thrones used this city as a shooting location, so it’s easy to imagine yourself in a modern day King’s Landing where you can get gelato, buy beautiful handmade souvenirs or get a haircut.
All in all this was one of our favourite cities we’ve ever visited and we’d go back to explore more in a heartbeat.
Don’t those boats look like chillies to you? Floating on a sky of ocean green?
