Snap back to the moment
In Christopher Nolan’s Inception, the character of Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) has a totem that he spins to see if he’s in a dream or in reality. If it topples he’s in the real world, if it keeps spinning he’s dreaming.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all have a totem to show us when we’re dwelling in the past or future? If you could have a little trinket to beep or fall over to snap you back to the present moment when you’re feeling sad dwelling on something that happened in the past or anxious about something that might (or might not) happen in the future?
We spend far too much time reliving past events or thinking of things to come. If you’re able to read this, chances are the present moment is actually quite nice. Chances are you have more than one limb to be grateful for and a mind strong enough to tear you away from social media, porn or online gambling for a for a few minutes to read some sentences successfully.
The present moment is something to be celebrated. Take a second to breathe it in and say ‘thank you’.
